Navigating Content Pitfalls: Quality vs. Quantity

Content length and quality matter. Imagine you’ve written a blog post to answer a question, but the content is thin or you’re skirting around it, never quite addressing it directly. You may find yourself raising more questions or, worse still, falling into the clickbait trap we see so often. “Come see how this person looks now after being famous 20 years ago!” Yet, it’s not until page 20 that you finally discover their current appearance or get any substantial information. Readers don’t want a prologue or a prequel; they want answers. This kind of content disappoints users. Why would they stick around, revisit your site, or even bother sharing the post?

The Impact of Thin Content

Does poor content lead to a higher bounce rate? Consider also the length of the post. Typically, 600 words or more is considered the norm and good practice. However, don’t feel compelled to write up to or beyond 600 words unless the content necessitates it. If it’s a simple question with a simple answer and your content is only 200 words, that’s fine. But if you’re explaining something, try to make your posts more comprehensive. Additionally, remember to break up your content with images and videos. In today’s fast-paced world, users often just want to find what they’re looking for quickly and move on.

The Importance of Quality Over Quantity

Some may advocate for making your posts extensive, but I believe it’s more about the quality. If I read a really good post and enjoy it, I’m more inclined to read more from that author and perhaps even subscribe to their newsletter.
